I will exact my revenge upon the developers of this infernal app.

Heh. I think I had that same app on my phone. It kept dealing unwinnable hands. I mean, I know unwinnable hands will eventually be dealt, but for so many of them to? I uninstalled it and found a different solitaire app.

Had a massive FreeCell period in highschool, together with a few classmates. Used to find difficult ones and then look who could finish it first.

I’M GLAD I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE! I don’t like this app, but I haven’t found a better one out there.

I’ve had Windows give me two of the same card before.

We ran the numbers in a game theory class way back when I was in college. IIRC ~80% of games (draw-3, infinite deal) were theoretically winnable (ie a win state existed as the cards were dealt) but only ~40-50% were actually winnable using the best play algorithms and only ~20-35% were winnable using the simple algorithm that people normally do (aka move stuff up top ASAP, move everything from the deck to the field if available).
Apparently a bunch of the newer apps/programs take out the 20% unwinnable cases and some take out everything that can’t be won other than by the simplistic play method. They’re easy mode compared to playing with a real deck.

I use the same app, and I’m a master at the daily challenge.

That’s interesting to know. I’m not the strongest game player, so when I found an unwinnable hand, I’d try it again. When that didn't work, and it happened 4-5 games in a row, I got annoyed enough with the game to just trash the app. I figured most game developers were smart enough to take out the tougher or outright unwinnable hands, but this was a free one, so maybe they didn't care?

Heh, IMO they shouldn’t take them out...it’s a card game.
Some tips that move you from the 20% standard play bracket to the 45-50% optimal play bracket on infinite deal draw 3(there're exceptions to all of these, but unless you've played a lot with the intention of becoming a better player, as opposed to just wasting time, it's better to just follow them):
Never play all three cards on a draw Doing that prevents new cards from being exposed on the next deal.
Never move cards up from the field to the piles unless all uses for them in the field have been removed. That means no 3's to the top until all aces are at the top (gives a place for an exposed 2); no 4's until all 2's are up top, no 5's until all 3's etc.
Play your deals backwards. Aka, everytime you move something from the discard pile redeal the entire deck and keep track of the last playable card then go back through and play that one. This maximizes exposed cards during the game.
If you have a choice of exposing a face down card on the field or playing one from the discard pile, take the field.
